THE PROCESS
The model shop is central to the way we create, test, and advance our work.
Chapter I
THE MODEL ROOM
The studio creates highly detailed maquettes of all its projects, down to its own custom pieces. These handmade miniatures, arranged and rearranged, function as a living sketchbook, an elastic analog of the studio’s way of thinking. They allow for a sense of playfulness and human gesture. There is a set of ingredients, and maybe it's the same ones, and yet the recipe always changes. Resisting rigidity for something more emotive. Sometimes a chair dictates the rest of the room. Sometimes the room calls for a new kind of chair.
Chapter II
MATERIALS
The studio works within a tight palette of materials prized for their warmth and tactility—rich woods, nubby wools, gauzy silks—luxurious without shouting, reimagined for what the space asks for. Materials surface in unexpected ways: ceramic tiled into tortoise shell tables, or formed into elegant lighting like crumpled paper. The hand remains visible. But this is not prescriptive. Place is rich with history, and we respond to it with openness and curiosity, research and consideration, joining with local artisans and craftspeople to tell an authentic story.

T Magazine: “Valle, who creates soft, pared-down interiors and things to fill them, practices a strain of modernism dosed with whimsy...”
